Realme Set to Announce New Phone in India on January 3, Could Be Realme 12 Series

Realme, the Chinese electronics giant, is set to make waves in 2024 with a lineup of new smartphone launches. Following the recent debut of the Realme C67 5G in India, the company's official announcement on social media hints at another exciting addition to its portfolio. While specific details are scarce, speculations suggest that the upcoming release could be either the Realme 12 series or the Realme GT 5 Pro, unveiled in China last December.

Realme India's New Year's morning update on X (formerly Twitter) teased the anticipation of an imminent smartphone launch. The post invited followers to "stay tuned for the real update" and hinted at a potential launch date reveal on January 3 at 7:30 AM IST for an undisclosed handset. Although no specific details or teaser images were provided, the company encouraged users to guess the nature of the impending update.

Industry watchers speculate that this update might allude to the launch of the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+. Recent sightings of these phones on the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) website indicated the model numbers RMX3842 and RMX3840, respectively. The listings suggested the inclusion of 5G connectivity in these upcoming devices.

The Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ also made appearances on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, pointing towards an imminent launch in India. Notably, the high-end Realme 12 Pro+ was spotted on Indonesia's SDPPI certification site as well.

Realme has not officially announced the Realme 12 series, but the company did tease a new flagship smartphone featuring a periscope camera. A recent teaser hinted at enhanced zoom capabilities, potentially belonging to the speculated Realme 12 Pro+.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) supported this speculation, reposting the teaser image and predicting the debut of the Realme 12 Pro+ by the end of January or in February. The phone is rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chipset, likely the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC.

Additionally, the reference to a January 3 announcement could also be linked to the Realme GT 5 Pro. Launched in China on December 7, this flagship device boasts top-tier specifications, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a 1.5K resolution display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and a triple rear camera setup led by a 50-megapixel primary Sony LYT-808 sensor.

While the company has not officially confirmed the Indian launch timeline for the Realme GT 5 Pro, enthusiasts eagerly await Realme's official announcement, expecting an exciting start to the new year in the world of smartphones.
