Samsung QLED and 8K TVs Amp Up Style, Picture and Game Bar

The biggest TV maker in the world will sell four different 98-inch TVs in 2024 and plenty of smaller ones too.

Samsung, a longstanding leader in the television industry, has once again asserted its dominance by introducing a groundbreaking lineup of TVs at CES 2024. Renowned for holding the top spot in TV sales for over 15 years, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of innovation with its latest offerings that seamlessly integrate both OLED and QLED technologies.

One of the standout models in Samsung's CES 2024 showcase is the flagship QN900D, hailed as the slimmest and most premium 8K TV to ever grace the market. Available in sizes ranging from 65 to 98 inches, this marvel of technology boasts a mirrored "floating" stand and a compact, U-shaped One Connect box designed for hassle-free connectivity with external devices.

The QN900D's impressive image quality is powered by a mini-LED backlight, accompanied by advanced processing capabilities, including the groundbreaking AI Motion Enhancer Pro. This feature enhances the clarity of fast-moving objects, providing viewers with a visually stunning and immersive experience. Notably, Samsung takes a leap forward by introducing the capability to upscale low-resolution, standard-definition content to 8K, a claimed industry first.

A notable feature is the QN900D's support for a maximum variable refresh rate (VRR) of 240Hz, setting a new standard for gaming enthusiasts. This enhancement improves the smoothness of fast-paced games, surpassing the industry norm of 120Hz or 144Hz. While the step-down model, the 800D 8K TV, can reach up to 165Hz, it's crucial to note that these higher refresh rates are exclusive to PCs and do not currently extend to game consoles like the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5.

Despite the extraordinary capabilities of the QN900D, it's essential to consider that the higher refresh rates might not be a significant factor for the average consumer, as they are primarily beneficial for PC gaming. Nevertheless, Samsung's commitment to pushing the boundaries of TV technology is evident in the QN900D's impressive features and specifications.

As Samsung continues to lead the way in TV innovation, the QN900D stands as a testament to the company's dedication to providing consumers with cutting-edge, premium viewing experiences. With its combination of sleek design, advanced technology, and unparalleled picture quality, Samsung's latest 8K TV reaffirms the brand's position as a trailblazer in the world of home entertainment.

Samsung continues to dominate the TV market, introducing an impressive lineup at CES 2024 that caters to various consumer preferences. Notable among these offerings are the 8K TVs, including the flagship QN900D with a slim profile and advanced features. Samsung claims that almost 40% of high-end buyers are considering 8K TVs, emphasizing their commitment to cutting-edge technology.

However, acknowledging the potentially high price of 8K TVs for most consumers, Samsung also unveiled two high-end Neo QLED 4K models: the QN85D and QN90D. Available in sizes ranging from 43 to 98 inches, these models incorporate mini-LED backlights for enhanced picture quality. A noteworthy addition is the Custom Picture Mode, allowing users to choose from a set of four AI-generated images to adjust the display to their preferences.

Despite not reviewing Samsung's New QLED TVs last year, the QN90D is anticipated to perform on par with the QN90B, a favorite non-OLED TV in 2022, based on specifications.

Samsung places a spotlight on large screens, recognizing the demand for massive TVs at CES. While there are no mainstream models exceeding 100 inches, the company will offer four separate series in 2024 featuring a 98-inch size. This includes a 98-inch version of the affordable Crystal UHD series, accompanied by the SuperSize Picture Enhancer designed to optimize sharpness and black levels on expansive displays.

Gaming enthusiasts will appreciate the enhancements in the Game Bar, now at version 4.0, which automatically detects game genres and adjusts picture settings accordingly. The Gaming Hub, providing access to cloud games like Xbox, boasts a tailored UI for personalized gaming preferences.

Samsung's commitment to accessibility features is evident with the introduction of Audio Subtitles, a feature that reads subtitles aloud in real-time using text-to-speech technology. Building on last year's accessibility feature, Relumino, which enhances contrast and sharpness for those with low vision, the company now allows users to split the screen to watch normal video on one side and Relumino on the other.

In a significant move, Samsung announced two series of OLED-based TVs, further diversifying its offerings. While pricing details were not disclosed at CES, these new models are expected to hit the market in the spring, providing consumers with a broad range of choices. Stay tuned for in-depth reviews once these TVs become available, offering a closer look at their performance and capabilities.
