Katrina Kaif, one of the most successful and popular actresses in Bollywood, has spoken up about the issue of gender pay disparity in the Indian film industry. In a recent interview with Film Companion[^1^][1], she candidly shared her views on the lack of pay parity between male and female actors, and the challenges faced by women in the industry.

Kaif acknowledged that there is a significant gap in the earnings of male and female-led films, which is often determined by the box office numbers. She said that this is a "really tricky topic" and that she has heard arguments from both sides. She also pointed out the difficulty of deciding which factor is the most important in making a film successful, and whether it is fair to base the pay scale on that.

However, Kaif also expressed her hope for a more balanced and equal approach in the industry, and said that it would be "incredible" to see more pay equality. She said that she likes to look at things positively, and that she feels things are moving in the right direction. She also said that she believes everyone in the industry is supportive of this change.

Kaif also revealed some insights from her early days in the industry, when she had very limited savings and had to work hard to sustain herself. She said that she initially thought of trying films until she ran out of money, and then she would stop. However, she eventually found success as a model and then as an actress, and has been in the industry for over two decades.

Kaif is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Merry Christmas, directed by Sriram Raghavan and co-starring Vijay Sethupathi. The film is a thriller that will be released in both Hindi and Tamil versions on January 12, 2024. Kaif was last seen in Tiger 3, opposite Salman Khan and Emraan Hashmi, which was a huge hit at the box office.
